Glendale Unified honors students who know their current events

Glendale Unified School District officials recently honored eight

local students as the top scorers at the 2004 National Current Events

League Contest.

School board members honored seventh-graders Mehnaaz Chowdhury of

Toll Middle School; Kristofer Coffman of Wilson Middle School; Jasper

Mesnik of Rosemont Middle School and Ofelia Yerzinkyan of Roosevelt

Middle School at the May 25 board meeting.

Board members also honored eighth-graders Shaunt Attarian of

Wilson; Jano Boghossian of Toll; Rio Fischer of Rosemont and Gerald

Mendoza of Roosevelt.

The eight students were among 1,040 Glendale boys and girls who

participated in the national contest, which was conducted this school

year in more than 121 schools in 36 states.

Participating students had to answer 30 questions on current

events during four meets this year.
