Summer school starts at churches

For several churches, studying the Bible is more than reading. It

includes interacting and creating fun activities for children of all


Local churches will present programs this summer to educate

children and entertain them with stories from the Bible. Participants

will embark on adventurous lessons that include cooking, singing,


arts and crafts, drama, games, and more.

* First Lutheran Church begins its day camp, featuring Bible

lessons in songs and crafts, at 9 a.m. Monday. It ends at 3 p.m. and

will run through June 25, at 1300 E. Colorado St. Enrollment is $60,

and a $10 donation cost for materials is requested. The session is

for children entering first through fifth grade. For more

* La Canada United Methodist Church presents a luau, featuring

The Polynesian Group, at 6:30 p.m. Friday to celebrate the beginning

of its vacation bible school. The event will also feature roast pork

and native dancing. There will be games and applicable bible studies

beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The school will end with an

in-church performance and pool party lunch Sunday. This event is for

* First Baptist Church presents its Kids Summer Day Camp 2004,

featuring puppets, science projects, bible lessons and more from 9

a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning July 6, at 4441 La

Crescenta Ave. Admission is $15 per day, or $110 in advance for all

eight sessions. The program is for children entering first through

* First Baptist Church of Montrose presents "Lava Lava Island"

vacation bible school for children of all ages from 9 a.m. to noon

July 19 through July 23 at 1911 Waltonia Drive, Montrose. This event

will feature arts and crafts, games and various activities with each

bible lesson. A donation is requested. For more information, call


* Glendale Presbyterian Church presents its "VBS and X-Games

2004," featuring bible stories, games, music and crafts, from July 19

to July 23 at 125 S. Louise St. The program is from 9 a.m. to noon

for children 3 1/2 to entering first grade in the fall, and from 3 to

6 p.m. for children in first through sixth grade. Enrollment is $30.
