When I read in last week's Valley Sun about the future of the May-Lane property ("The past and future of the May-Lane Motel," CV Sun, June 11), I couldn't believe that we actually were going to be getting a family restaurant and not another strip mall. I wasn't as thrilled about the other retail and business spaces going with it, but to have a family restaurant here is quite an undertaking. I have been complaining for years about.
La Crescenta (including the annex) has way too many strip malls already. There are still several abandoned lots on Foothill Boulevard that could be great restaurants as well, something everyone here wants. What is going to happen to all of those lots? We just can't have more strip malls with businesses that go in and out every other month. Why can't the members of this community have a say of what goes in there? I love the fact that the town council is finally listening and trying to put in businesses that the people here want. Why can't the Glendale City Council do the same? It seems every open lot that is in the annex section of Foothill, becomes another strip mall. Does Glendale not care about us up on the hill? Why can't we have a vote of what goes in our community? The lot where McDonald's was is perfect for a restaurant. What is going in there? It doesn't do any good to put in all of these small businesses that fail. Put in one big one that is sure to be a success.
