Woman is business associate of year

Evelyn Reichgelt has been named 2004 Business Associate of the

Year by Verdugo Glen Chapter of the American Business Women's Assn.

Reichgelt was nominated by Sylvia Becdach, her daughter and business

partner, and association member.

Selection is based on the nominee's career and goals, educational

advancement, community involvement and contributions to mentoring

women in the business world.

When she was 19, Reichgelt came to the United States, where she

met her first husband and had two daughters. She has worked as a

bilingual secretary at Litton Industries and as the secretary to the

CEO at Actor's Equity in Hollywood. While working at Jon Douglas Real

Estate, she took classes and then went to work full time in the real

estate business. In 2001, Dilbeck Realty named her Glendale's Top

Realtor of the Year.

Lynn White Shelby, chapter president, presented Reichgelt with an

inscribed plaque during a meeting at the Glendale Elks Club. Diane

Tubbs and Barbara Eastman, Verdugo Glen members, were event

co-chairwomen.

Beta Sigma Phi honors Founder's Day

Glendale Area Council of Beta Sigma Phi celebrated the 73rd

anniversary of its Founder's Day at Mijares Mexican Restaurant. Beta

Sigma Phi is an international sorority with chapters around the

world. Members with 25-, 50- and 60-plus years of service were

honored.

The executive board was installed. Officers are President Grace

Mylroie-Patz of Burbank, Vice President Pennie Eiben, Recording

Secretary Terry Asti, Corresponding Secretary Ann Bailey, and

Treasurer Judy Morgan.

Glendale Area Council is comprised of five chapters in the

Glendale/La Crescenta area. For membership information, call Eiben at

Service club has annual picnic

The Foothill Service Club for the Blind will have its annual

Independence Day picnic July 7 at Casa Adobe Park, 1330 Dorothy

Drive, Glendale.

This 65-year-old social organization for legally blind residents

of Glendale and surrounding areas has met in this park to celebrate

Independence Day for many years with a traditional fried chicken

luncheon prepared by the club's cooks.

The meal is served by the Burbank Emblem Club. Joan Middleton,

chairwoman of the Emblem Club servers, is assisted by other Emblem

Club members Bobbie Weller, Ivy Miller, Eleanor Babchuck, Andrea

Allen and Barbara Maslyk. This organization has served the Foothill

Club for more than 50 years.

Frances Mannino is president of the club.

The Foothill Service Club for the Blind is sponsored by three

Lions clubs, Eagle Rock, Griffith Park and Northwest Glendale. The

Foothill Club is at 117 E. Los Feliz Road in Glendale. For more

Guild raises $31,000 for cancer center

The "Swingin' with the Stars" luncheon and fashion show raised

$31,000 toward Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild's

$1,000,000 pledge for the Integrated Cancer Center.

The event was April 17 in the Universal Sheraton's Grand Ballroom.

Carin Holmenas produced the show featuring fashions by Robert Ellis

and Sy Devore along with designs from Trevilla's Arkive Collection.

The Spring Event is the guild's major fundraising event of the

year.
