The Gay Men's Chorus remembers a legend during its final concert

in its 25th anniversary season titled "You Made Me Love You: the

Music of Judy Garland" July 9, 10 and 11 at the Alex Theatre in

Glendale.

Bruce Mayhall conducts the orchestra in this concert, honoring

Garland, whose death, some say, sparked the Stonewall riots, which

was one of the touchstones of the gay and lesbian civil-rights

movement.

The chorus will sing Garland's classic hits as well as medleys

from her concerts and television appearances.

Tickets range from $15 to $70, with student, senior and group

discounts available. Those purchasing terrace and orchestra seats

will receive the chorus' CD/DVD combination gift item and can attend

a post-event reception. For reservations, call (800) 636-7464 or

243-2539.

The Firehouse Stompers will entertain beginning at 2 p.m. on the

Fourth of July at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge.

A Dixieland jazz band, this high-spirited group of musicians

combine consummate skill and quirky humor in their shows as they mix

an old-fashioned firehouse siren with sousaphone, cornet, clarinet,

trombone, banjo and piano.

The free concert is part of the gardens' Six Continents World

Music Tour. The concerts are included in the gardens admission.

The remaining concerts are July 11, Banshee in the Kitchen,

offering Celtic music; July 18, PanACea Steel Drum and Calypso Band;

and July 25, Dave's Aussie Bush Band from Australia/Oceania.

Parking is free. Admission fees are $6, $4 for seniors and

students, $1.50 for children 5 to 12, and free for members and

children 5 and younger. For more information, call 949-4200.
