Foothill-Tujunga/Jewel City avenged a 10-0 loss to CV in
first-round game on Friday at Scholl Canyon Park. That game was
called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Foothill-Tujunga/Jewel City will have an opportunity to win its
fifth consecutive title today, including a fourth straight under
Coach Ron de Lamare.
The Foothill-Tujunga/Jewel City-CV winner will advance to the
Sectionals, which will begin at 6 p.m. Friday against the District 17
representative at Parkview Little League Field in Lancaster.
Foothill-Tujunga/Jewel City received three hits apiece from
Lyndsay Porchas, Amy Bishop and Alyssa Johnson.
The trio combined to drive in four runs in support of Bishop
(1-0).
CV, which finished with four hits for the second consecutive game,
got a bases-loaded double from Emily Heinemann in the bottom of the
sixth inning to cut the lead to 8-4.
Foothill-Tujunga/Jewel City scored three runs in the third to
build a 3-0 lead.
The first four batters singled against CV starting pitcher Chelsea
Reid (0-1) with Porchas driving in a run with a bloop single to make
it 3-0.
Bishop limited CV, who is coached by John Heurkins, to one hit in
four innings.
Danielle Tyson had a line-drive single to left in the first
inning, but was stranded at first.
Foothill-Tujunga/Jewel City scored two runs in the second, one in
the fifth and two in the sixth to grab an 8-0 lead.
Carina Matosian had a run-scoring ground out in the sixth to close
out the scoring.
