Transient woman allegedly scratches GPD officer's face

A homeless woman faces charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a

Glendale Police officer, authorities said.

Stephanie Sumrall, 35, allegedly clawed at the face of Glendale

Police Officer Stephen Eggett after he tried to restrain and arrest

her for disobeying his order to not cross Wilson Avenue on Wednesday

against a red light, police said.

Eggett was driving west on Wilson Avenue and saw Sumrall crossing

at Isabel Street, according to police reports. Eggett stopped and

ordered her to go back to the curb several times, but she refused,

police said.

Eggett suffered scratches and bruises to his forehead and cheeks.

Sumrall suffered a cut above her right elbow and was taken to

Glendale Adventist Medical Center for a blood test, police said.

Sumrall was being held Thursday on $20,000 bail and is scheduled

to be arraigned today.
