For those interested in seeing all the entries of this year's "I Love

My Neighborhood" student poster contest, there's A Mid-Summer Night

Art Exhibit & Silent Auction from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Perkins

The contest for students in public and private elementary schools

is sponsored by the Committee for a Clean & Beautiful Glendale. The

63 finalists were chosen from almost 10,000 entries submitted. All

63 will be in the show.

This year's theme was "Litter No More in 2004" and the winner was

Spencer Dryden, a fourth-grader from Fremont Elementary School.

Dryden received the recognition at a ceremony in April at the

Glendale Civic Auditorium, said Sandra Rodriguez, public educational

specialist for Neighborhood Services for the city of Glendale.

"Through the topic, we were trying to get students to value

neighborhood pride and litter prevention," Rodriguez said. "When we

do special things for their artwork, it reinforces the message we are

trying to instill in them."

Silent auction items include lunch for a family and tour of the

new Glendale Police Department with Chief Randy Adams, a dinner for

two at Casa de Ramos and art donated by local artists sculptor

Michael Sheehan and photographer Richard Espinoza.

There will be live music performed by the Glendale Youth Orchestra

and providing appetizers and desserts are California Pizza Kitchen,

Olive Garden, Billy's Deli, Chevy's Fresh Mex, Flor de Cafe, Panos

Pastry and Art's Bakery.

Tickets will be available at the door and cost $10, $5 for

children younger than 12. For more information, call 548-3972.

Funds raised will go to next year's contest to cover art paper for

the posters, the ceremony and trophies for finalists and gifts for

the top 10 finalists.
