American Pastime wins twice at nationals

American Pastime, a Chino-based travel softball team featuring

local residents Baillie Kirker and Kyle Mulligan, opened pool play in

the Amateur Softball Assn. of America's 12-and-under Fastpitch

National Championship with a pair of wins Tuesday in Moline, Ill.

American Pastime handled the Illinois-based Orion Express, 24-0,

and then beat the Tempe-based Arizona Hot Shots, 10-2.

American Pastime, one of 12 teams to clinch their pool Tuesday,

will begin elimination play today once the winners of the other eight

pools are determined.

CSA will hold registration for fall ball

Crescenta Sports Assn. will have walk-up registration for its

upcoming fall season from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Glendale

Sports Complex, 3900 Fern Lane, Glendale.

CSA is celebrating its 10th season of fall ball, offering softball

for ages 9-16 and baseball for ages 7-17.

Softball will be offered in two divisions -- 9- to 12-year-olds

and 16-and-under -- and baseball will be broken down into five

divisions -- 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17.

The 15- to 17-year-old division will be a wood-bat only league.

Last year, more than 550 individuals on 45 teams competed in CSA's

fall season.

Former Glendale High athlete to hold clinic

Jaiya Figueras, a former Glendale High football player and

assistant coach, will hold a strength and speed training clinic from

10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Glendale Community College.

Coaches, parents and athletes are welcome.

The cost is $20 per athlete and $30 per coach.

Figueras, who was an All-CIF selection at Glendale High, started

at strong safety for the University of Oregon.

Loporchio set to hold water polo clinic

Former Crescenta Valley High boys' water polo Coach Pete Loporchio

will conduct a water polo clinic for children 8-18 at College of the

Canyons, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia.

The clinic will be Thursday and Friday. For more information,
