Local schoolteacher is state title nominee

SOUTHWEST GLENDALE -- Glendale Unified School District officials

nominated Kim Labinger, a fourth-grade teacher at Edison Elementary

School, as their choice for the 2005 California Teacher of the Year.

Labinger has been with the district for 19 years. She teaches at

Edison Elementary and serves as consultant and presenter for the UCLA

Writing Project.

The nomination was submitted to the Los Angeles County Office of

Education. Twenty nominees among the county's school districts will

be chosen to write additional essays and be interviewed. From that

process, about 12 teachers will represent Los Angeles in a statewide

competition in Sacramento.

Conference happenings to be reported tonight

NORTHEAST GLENDALE -- A few artists and a professor will recap

tonight what happened during the recent Second Conference of Armenian

Writers.

Poets Grish Davtian and Juliet Grigorian, composer and conductor

Henrik Anasian and professor Oshin Keshishian will talk about the

conference, which was in Armenia from June 28 through July 5. The

talk will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Glendale Central Library's

auditorium, 222 E. Harvard St.

The Armenian Writers Assn. of California and the Glendale Central
