This goal gave Crescenta Valley a 3-0 win to propel them to the championship game against one of the state's top club teams-Samba.
The championship game, played at midday, left Crescenta Valley with only one substitute player to face an energized and fully loaded Samba team. While the offense played well, this game belonged to Crescenta Valley's midfield and defense.
Susan Ibarra gave Crescenta Valley a 1-0 lead on a one-time shot from the top of Samba's goalie box. From there, midfielders Jacque Phinney, Danielle Busta, Susan Ibarra and Johanna Moran controlled the rest of the half.
In the second half, Crescenta Valley had just missed on several scoring opportunities when Samba began to take momentum. However, the defense led by stopper Joelle Alberian, defenders Tiernan Hebron and Brianna Ismale, sweeper Mallory Carcich and goalkeeper Brianna Galvez were up to the challenge, just as they had been all tournament long.
Thwarting wave after wave of Samba attackers, they held off their determined opponents, preserving the 1-0 score and giving Crescenta Valley the championship another save for the locals.
