Glendale Skaters send two teams to event

The Glendale Skaters Junior and Senior squads earned gold medals

at the National Competition in Lincoln, Neb., in August.

Both teams repeated as champions, and each squad will compete at

the Federation International Roller Skating Championship in November

in Fresno.

Glendale qualified in August, 2003, to participate in the

precision category and last February in the show category. Glendale

was invited to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies.

Memorial service for Barnes set for Sept. 26

A memorial service for former Glendale High track and field and

cross-country Coach John Barnes will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept.

26 at Glendale High School's library, 1440 E. Broadway, Glendale.

Barnes, a former Olympian, died Aug. 25 of cancer in Suffolk, Va.

He was 74.

Former Glendale athlete and Olympic high jumper Dwight Stones is

expected to speak at the event.

Glendale High grad to hold sports clinic

Jaiya Figueras, a former Glendale High football player and

assistant coach, will hold a strength and speeding training clinic

from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at Glendale Community College.

Coaches, parents and athletes are welcome. The cost is $20 per

athlete, and $30 per coach/parent.

Glendale High to host breakfast fundraiser

The Nitros Touchdown Club will host the Glendale football team's

annual pancake breakfast Oct. 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tickets

are $5 and can be purchased from any Nitro player at football games

or by calling Amo Frankian at 434-8099.
