He had the fastest preliminaries swim in the 200 meter free, and won the event in the finals by more than four body lengths. However, a referee's judgment call disqualified Lukas for a false start.
An eighth grader at Rosemont Middle School, Zachary, having just reached the 13-14 group two weeks prior to the event, was able to make the finals.
He placed 11th in the 1,500 meter free, 13th in the 400 meter free, 14th in the 800 meter free, 12th in the 200 meter butterfly and 400 meter individual medley.
Mirisola, who is in the ninth grade at La CaƱada High, swam to a first place finish in the 100 and 200 meter backstroke and the 400 individual medley, second in the 200 individual medley, fourth in the 200 meter free, and fifth in the 200 breaststroke.
Mirisola and Lukas Taylor traveled to Northern California the following week to represent Southern California at the Western Zone Championships where they competed against teams from more than 17 states.
Lukas swam to second place in the 200 meter free, the 50 and 100 butterfly events, anchored the 200 free relay which came in second, and took 12th in the 50 meter free and 13th in the 100 meter free.
Mirisola placed first in the 100 and 200 meter backstrokes and the 400 individual medley, sixth in the 1,500 meter free, eighth in the 400 meter free, and swam in four relays which placed in the top six.
