A point of view from a typical Democrat

October 08, 2004

Re: "A complex matter, just without the basic facts," (Oct. 7) by

Malcolm Johnson.

I've read some really convoluted "opinions" written by residents

in or close to the city of Glendale, and Mr. Johnson is truly

representative of that futile mentality.

Johnson appears to have been set to vote against President George

W. Bush all along, but for no factual reason. Then, after watching

the "debate" between the president and Sen. John Kerry, now says he

isn't voting "against" President Bush, but "for Kerry."

Factually, for Johnson, it only points out how naive and out of

touch he is with the world's problems -- as well as with Kerry's

convoluted record, both regarding Vietnam and Kerry's 30-year voting

record on the military, taxes, and social issues.

But I guess that one who votes against something one knows little

or nothing about in the first place, then votes for someone else who

the one cares not to know even a little about, describes a

significant number of America's Democratic-leaning electorate.

How sad, but truly an American dilemma.
