Solar Home Tour a Blast

October 08, 2004

I want to sincerely thank you for your coverage on the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour ("Local Home Featured in 'Solar Tour,'" CV Sun, Oct. 1).

It was a great success, we had more attendees than we expected, well over 100 at our house alone. Your timely newspaper coverage and well written article brought interested people to all our home sites-three out of over 2,000 nationwide.

Public education is the biggest need there is in solar because the technology, hardware, distributors, and contractors are matured, reliable, and cost-effective. As nations begin to inevitably circle the wagons on oil resources, foreign wars and internal struggles will become more severe in all our lives the planet over. Something as simple as the sun shining on us now offers incredible freedom from this strife. It's one major piece to the puzzle.

Basically solar electricity is dirt simple. There are no moving parts to wear out. Solar voltaic technology saves us money at our house on electricity, and is environmentally clean. We are good neighbors locally and globally. We are also having fun doing it! If you came to our house you'd know what I mean.

We hope in October 2005 to again see so many folks with all the questions and hopes. My voice is a little worse for wear from yesterday's open house, but the spirit is soaring. We had a blast!
