Local dignitaries, business leaders and other notable public figures

mingled with Glendale News-Press and Foothill Leader staffers Monday

night to welcome the return to the newspapers' former names.

Two years ago, the papers were consolidated and renamed

News-Press. On Saturday, they reverted back to their old names.

The party also celebrated the Glendale News-Press special section,

Glendale's Back!, informing readers on the facets of the community,

ranging from public safety and business to sports and local politics.

"This demonstrates our renewed commitment to Glendale, and we want

all of you to understand that we mean it," Will Fleet, publisher of

the papers, told the audience of more than 100. "We're here to stay,

and we're very dedicated to this community."

Many officials -- including Mayor Bob Yousefian, Councilman Gus

Gomez and City Manager Jim Starbird -- were glad to see the

newspapers come fill circle.

"When I first got involved [in the city] 10 years ago, the

Glendale News-Press was always the paper you went to when you wanted

to know what was happening in Glendale," Gomez said. "And I think

it's going back to that identity."
