Gas line broken in neighborhood

NORTHEAST GLENDALE -- Nearby residents were ordered to stay

indoors for a few hours Friday morning after a home developer

accidentally broke a 2-inch gas line, causing a leak that took about

two hours to repair, authorities said.

The line was broken about 10:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Del Ray

Drive, a residential area, said Glendale Fire Capt. Carlos Guerrero,

a spokesman for the department.

Glendale firefighters squired a fog stream over the leak to break

up gas particles, reducing the chance of explosion, Guerrero said.

The Gas Company employees, meanwhile, worked to fix the pipe.

Neighbors put out bathroom fire

NORTHWEST GLENDALE -- A minor apartment fire started by an

unattended candle was extinguished by neighbors armed with bottled

water, authorities said.

Glendale firefighters responded about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to the

home in the 400 block of West Dryden Street, said Capt. Carlos

Guerrero, the department's spokesman.

The apartment manager and another tenant put out the flames --

which caused about $6,000 in damage to a bathroom -- before

firefighters arrived, Guerrero said.
