Serrano was the guest of honor. He spent the evening discussing
his painting techniques and telling stories.
A five-course dinner with wine was catered by former La Canada
Flintridge resident Maria Roberts of Maria Roberts Catering.
Serrano's paintings will remain at the gallery, 2414 Honolulu
Ave., through Tuesday.
Guests take a gamble for
fun at casino fundraiser
Delicious food and exciting games kept guests happy during the
Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild's "Monte Carlo Casino
Night" on Nov. 6 at Lakeside Golf Club to benefit the medical
center's Integrated Cancer Center. Proceeds will apply toward the
guild's $1-million pledge to that center.
Following a buffet dinner of pasta, chicken breast fillets and
scrumptious array of desserts, those attending played at the
roulette, craps and blackjack tables. High-roller winners received
prizes at the end of the evening. Master of Ceremonies Steve Graham
kept the activities on a roll and Steve Goldfarb entertained diners
with his masterful feats of magic.
President Julie McArdle commended chairwoman Janice Khoury and
co-chairwoman Josie McCurley and their committee for the event's
success.
Garden club has open
house and plant sale
The Burbank-Valley Garden Club is having its annual Holiday Open
House and Plants Sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Verdugo
Park Assembly Building, 700 N. California St.
Members will display their growing accomplishments for this year,
including the recreation of the historic garden at the Campo de
Cahuenga, pictures from the Youth Garden Club called The Disney
Diggers and their "Vision of Beauty" calendar.
Planning the event are co-chairwomen Jean Askeland and Harriet
Galloway.

Symphony supporters honor orchestra's conductor
Pasadena Symphony supporters gathered for a special gala evening
to honor conductor Jorge Mester on his 20th anniversary season as
music director.
Hosts were Milan Panic and Milena Kitic of Pasadena. Those
attending were Bill and Linda Krantz of Glendale and Gorik and Anita
Hossepian of La Canada Flintridge.
