Six dine with the artist, thanks to council fundraiser

Linda Strack, owner of Whites Gallery in Montrose, planned a

unique event for Montrose artist Frank Serrano's exhibit. She donated

an intimate dinner for six to a fundraiser of the Verdugo Hills

Women's Council.

Serrano was the guest of honor. He spent the evening discussing

his painting techniques and telling stories.

A five-course dinner with wine was catered by former La Canada

Flintridge resident Maria Roberts of Maria Roberts Catering.

Serrano's paintings will remain at the gallery, 2414 Honolulu

Ave., through Tuesday.

Guests take a gamble for

fun at casino fundraiser

Delicious food and exciting games kept guests happy during the

Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild's "Monte Carlo Casino

Night" on Nov. 6 at Lakeside Golf Club to benefit the medical

center's Integrated Cancer Center. Proceeds will apply toward the

guild's $1-million pledge to that center.

Following a buffet dinner of pasta, chicken breast fillets and

scrumptious array of desserts, those attending played at the

roulette, craps and blackjack tables. High-roller winners received

prizes at the end of the evening. Master of Ceremonies Steve Graham

kept the activities on a roll and Steve Goldfarb entertained diners

with his masterful feats of magic.

President Julie McArdle commended chairwoman Janice Khoury and

co-chairwoman Josie McCurley and their committee for the event's

success.
