Police will give holiday safety tips on TV show

GLENDALE -- Glendale Police officers will discuss holiday safety

tonight on the most recent edition of the department's show, "Behind

the Badge."

Officer Ash Mankarios and Agent Lisa Muzquiz will go over personal

safety and how people can protect themselves from fraud during the

show, which airs at 7 p.m. on Charter Communications Channel 6.

Lecture to focus on faith and politics

NORTHEAST GLENDALE -- Explore faith and politics today with Blase

Bonpane, named by L.A. Weekly as "the most underrated humanist of the

past decade," during a free lecture at Glendale Community College

Bonpane is director of the Office of the Americas, a nonprofit

educational organization devoted to global justice and peace. He

earned the reputation of being an expert on liberation theology and

is a regular news commentator on KPFK Pacifica Radio and is host of

the weekly program, World Focus. Bonpane will also sign copies of his

latest book, "Common Sense for the Twenty-First Century" after the

lecture and discussion.

The lecture will be today at noon in Kreider Hall at the college,

1500 N. Verdugo Road. The event will be the last of this semester's

Humanities and Social Sciences Lecture Series.

Elderly woman hit

by bus recovering

NORTHWEST GLENDALE -- An 83-year-old Glendale woman hurt in a

Beeline bus accident in September is expected to recover from her

injuries.

Glendale Police have determined the bus driver was at fault, but

no criminal charges were expected to be filed, said Lt. Don Meredith,

who heads the department's traffic bureau.

Driver Deborah Ann York, 51, of Glendale, is on administrative

leave pending the results of internal investigations, said John

Baird, a company spokesman for MV Transportation, which runs the

Beeline.

Police released an on-board video of the incident this week to

news organizations.
