Let there be light

With latkes, Jewish music, clowns and balloons, the local Chabad

community will celebrate Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, at

the Glendale Galleria at 5 p.m. Sunday. Chabad of Los Feliz, an

Orthodox Jewish organization, will light a giant menorah in Mervyn's

Court, marking the sixth night of the holiday. Hanukkah begins at

sundown on Tuesday and lasts for eight days.

CITIZENS HONORED FOR ETHICS

The Character & Ethics Project of Glendale will honor dozens of

local citizens for their commitment to good character and ethics from

3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Glendale Public Library Auditorium, 222

FLINTRIDGE PREP PERFORMS 'LARAMIE PROJECT'

Flintridge Preparatory School's Performing Arts Department will

present Moises Kaufman's "The Laramie Project" Wednesday through

Saturday. The play examines the town of Laramie, Wyo., during the

events surrounding the murder of Matthew Shepard in October 1998.

Performances are in the Miller Theater on the Flintridge Preparatory

School campus, 4543 Crown Avenue, La Canada Flintridge. Curtain time

is 7:30 p.m. for shows Wednesday through Saturday; there will also be

a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee. Tickets for The Laramie Project are $5.

'A Christmas Carol' takes stage

Charles Dickens' timeless characters come to the stage as the

Glendale Centre Theatre presents, "A Christmas Carol" through Dec.

23. Show times are 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and Saturday

matinees at 3 p.m. Ticket prices range from $12.50 to $23. The
