Ho-Ho-Holiday Home Tour is Here

December 10, 2004|By Katherine Gould

For the seventh year, Crescenta Valley residents will have the chance to peek into four homes decked out for the holidays during the Prom Plus Holiday Tour Saturday.

The annual event will benefit Prom Plus, a supervised after-prom event held each year for students attending Crescenta Valley High School's prom.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests will get ideas on decorating their own home when they visit four homes showcasing a variety of architectural styles. The Rabinov home at 4868 Sunset Ave. (between Rosemont and Briggs avenues) is a stately Spanish-style residence. The Parzyck home at 2703 Starfall Drive is accented with river rock inside and out. The Veselich home at 2367 Pickens Canyon Road is a more traditional California ranch and the Pondella home at 1919 Bayberry Drive is reminiscent of a 19th century French Village manor.

"We choose homes based on their uniqueness, their location, and the enthusiasm of the owners in decorating for the holidays and preparing for the holidays," said Prom Plus committee chair Robin Goldsworthy.

For those who have not yet purchased tickets, tickets will be available at each of the homes for $25.

This is the largest fund-raiser for the Prom Plus Committee. Prom Plus was founded after CV senior Berlyn Cosman was murdered at an unsupervised after-prom party in 1991. Following her death, area parents partnered with community leaders to create a safe and fun event for seniors and their guests to attend after the prom. This upcoming May will mark the 11th year that Prom Plus has hosted an event. For the last several years, Prom Plus has been held at the Crescenta-CaƱada YMCA from midnight to 5:30 a.m. Prom Plus offers attendees a variety of activities that have included a full casino, Gyroscope, and laser tag. Admission to Prom Plus is included in the cost of a prom ticket or can be purchased separately by seniors not attending the prom.

"We found that the home tour was a great opportunity to raise the awareness of Prom Plus outside the high school community," said Goldsworthy. "Also it was a real joyous way to welcome in the holiday season."

Last year, more than 260 people attended the home tour, which raised $6,000. In addition to the annual Holiday Home Tour, Prom Plus holds monthly bake sales at the school and looks to parents and local merchants to volunteer time and services to offset the $20,000-plus price tag for the event.
