Salazar Named Player of Year in Pacific League

Phil Salazar, the Crescenta Valley senior who quarterbacked the varsity football team to a share of the Pacific League title and into the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs, was named the league's Player of the Year in All League selections for fall sports released last week.

Veteran CV coach Alan Eberhart was also named Coach of the Year in football.

Salazar's teammate David Cook was also chosen the league's Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year along with Arcadia's Randy Choi and CV's Alex Pappas was named the league's Defensive Lineman of the Year.

In other sports, CV's Chris Sherman and Nick Trimis were voted the league's Most Valuable Players in boys' water polo. In girls' tennis, Alina Karapetyan was chosen the league's top singles player along with Pasadena's J.C. Cruz and Shelly Injejikian and Arcadia's Daniela Lee.

The CV doubles teams of Luana Choi and Kisa Ito and So Jung Yoon and Tiffany Mann were picked the league's top doubles team along with two teams from Arcadia.

Making the First Team - Offense for football are lineman Taylor Chambers and receivers Gabriel Balderrama and Brent Dormond. Second Team - Offense linemen Brian Carroll and Joe Walsh. Receiver Nick Reid got an Honorable Mention - Offense in football.

Picked for the First Team - Defense in football are all purpose player Varand Avanesian, linebacker Aaron Tyson and safety Grant Hardyment. Second Team -Defense selections are back Davon Jackson, end Edward Yi, lineman Chad Nacapoy and linebacker Patrick Atwater. Back Mark Klein received an Honorable Mention - Defense.

I n boys' water polo, Falcons making the First Team were Steven Claessens and Jay Kim. On the Second Team are Sam Blum, Ricky Mulcahey and Steven Silversparre.

Several Falcons were named All League in girls' volleyball. First Team picks are Laura Boyd and Emily Kuleto. Selected for the Second Team are Katlyn Grossnickle, Deborah Kim, Myra Nishizaki and Sandi Soderstrom. CV's Shereen Cline received an Honorable Mention.
