Rose Parade has strong local scent

December 31, 2004

The 116th annual Tournament of Roses Parade on Saturday in Pasadena

will have a heavy local flavor.

Glendale, La Canada Flintridge and La Crescenta will either have

floats in the parade or residents marching in bands. Five girls from

La Canada Flintridge will ride in the parade as members of the 2005

Royal Court, including Queen Ashley Moreno.

"The past few weeks have been really crazy, but it's going to be

such an honor to be riding in the parade as the Rose Queen," Ashley

said.

More than a dozen students from local high schools will march in

the Rose Parade Honor Band, which will lead the parade.

About 1 million people are expected to attend the parade, creating

traffic snarls on streets and freeways leading into the parade route.

MTA bus route 181, which can be caught at Brand Boulevard and

Broadway, will begin running toward the parade route every 30 minutes

beginning at 5:15 a.m.

Tournament of Roses officials recommend anyone driving to the

parade should get started by 6 a.m. The parade begins at 8 a.m.

Parade parking is offered on a first-come, first-served basis at

various lots and parking structures near the parade route. Parking

structures are at 33 E. Green St., 45 S. Delacey St. and 150 E. Holly

St. in Pasadena.

Overnight parking is available on Pasadena streets beginning at

noon today.
