The new rates will increase the average monthly water bill by
about $3.20, district General Manager Dennis Erdman said.
This is the district's second rate increase in a year. The
district increased rates by 10% in January 2004, citing the rising
cost of imported water and the need for improvements.

Project seeking nominations
If you know of people of honesty and integrity, recognize them
with a nomination for an award from the Character and Ethics Project.
The project's community awards program honors outstanding leaders
as role models. Nominations are due Feb. 14. The next quarterly

First poster contest deadline is Feb. 3
Local elementary school students who love their neighborhoods can
display their affection by entering the city's "I love My
Neighborhood" poster contest.
The 12th annual contest's theme is "Graffiti Hurts Glendale!"
Sign-up forms are available at each of the city's public and private
elementary schools. For year-round tracks A and D and for students in
traditional and private schools, the deadline to enter a poster is
Feb. 3. For students in tracks B and C, the deadline is Feb. 28.
The contest winners will be announced on March 15. For more
