Flintridge Prep 10, Oakwood 0 (5 innings): Flintridge Prep senior

Jenna Schachtner left off where she finished last season, while

freshman Amelia Grossman got her career off to a great start in the

Rebels' season-opener on Tuesday at Flintridge Prep.

In the circle, Schachtner didn't allow a hit and struck out 13

batters, while going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, a run and an

RBI. Grossman had two hits as well, to go with two runs and two RBIs.

Hoover 5, St. Matthias 0: Catie Rohrig pitched the first four

innings and earned the win Tuesday at home. She didn't allow a hit.

Jessica Pejsar and Rachael Estrella each went three for three for

the Tornadoes (1-1).

BASEBALL

Temple City 1, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights began their

season facing Cal State Fullerton University-bound Ryan Tucker, who

tossed a no-hitter and struck out nine in an Arcadia Elks Tournament

game at Temple City on Tuesday.

St. Francis junior pitcher Christian Bergman (0-1) took the loss despite scattering three hits and striking out nine. The right-hander

struck out the first seven batters he faced before giving up a run in

the fourth inning.

BOYS' GOLF

La Canada 186, Burroughs 208: La Canada's Kevin Lim and Joey Gutin

each carded an even-par 35 in Tuesday's nonleague win at the La

Canada Country Club.

David Lipsky also shot 36 for the Spartans (5-0).

Flintridge Prep 207, Azusa 251: Brett Kanda fired an even-par 34

to lead the Rebels (3-2) in Tuesday's nonleague match at the Azusa

Greens Golf Course. Rebel Jordan Sharpe had a 41 and teammate Chris

Park had a 42.

Arcadia 202, Glendale 224: Ryan Samuelsen shot a 40 on Tuesday

during a Pacific League match at the par-36 Santa Anita course.

Teammate James Chong shot a 41 for Glendale, which is 1-2 this

year, with all its matches being of the league variety.

GIRLS' SWIMMING

Glendale 85, La Salle 74: Nitro Adel Shgoub won the 100-yard

butterfly in 1 minute 12 seconds and Lilly Broussard won the 100

backstroke in 1:11.40 for the Nitros (4-0) in Tuesday's home meet.

BOYS' SWIMMING

Glendale 82, La Salle 82: Freshman Nick Lim won the 50-yard

freestyle (24.37 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.03) for the Nitros (1-2-1) in Tuesday's nonleague home meet.

MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in four-team Western State Conference

meet: The Vaqueros got several respectable efforts in their four-way

Western State Conference meet with West L.A., Santa Barbara City and

host Cuesta colleges on Friday.

Corey Lenaris finished second in the 200-meter event.

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in four-team Western State Conference

meet: The Vaqueros got good performances from Judy Maxwell, Annie

DeLeon and Itzel Vargas at a four-team Western State Conference meet

with West L.A., Santa Barbara City and host Cuesta colleges on

Friday.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 2, College of the Canyons 0: The

Vaqueros earned a Western State Conference road win Sunday after the

teams had their game rained out Saturday.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Ventura College 7, Glendale Community College 2: The Vaqueros

dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in Western State Conference with a

home conference loss March 1.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Santa Barbara City College 10, Glendale Community College 3: The

Vaqueros (0-11) fell in a Western State Conference Gold Division game

Wednesday. Glendale Community College started the week with a 15-0

conference loss to Ventura College.
