Nine Crescenta Valley residents have been named National Merit Scholarship Finalists, recognizing them among the top high school students in the nation.
Eight of the finalists are students at Crescenta Valley High School: Christopher J. Anderson, Eun-Ah H. Cho, Esther J. Hwang, Jay J. Kim, Traci Y. Kuratomi, Ronald J. Park, Andrew M. Simon and Garam Song. The ninth student, La Crescenta resident James C. Baker, is a student at Delphi Academy in Lake View Terrace.
The National Merit Scholarship Program chooses 16,200 semifinalists in September from students who took the Prelimiary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in the spring. Of those students, 15,000 are selected as finalists. From the finalists, 8,200 Merit Scholarship winners will be selected and will receive scholarship offers this month.
