Panthers grab first tournament crown

BOYS' BASKETBALL

The Glendale Panthers, a 16- and 17-year-old boys' basketball

squad, captured the Temecula Great Oaks Classic Tournament with a

55-26 victory Saturday.

Glendale built a 14-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked

back after finishing fourth in the event last year. Zareh Zargaryan

led the Panthers with 10 points, eight rebounds, four steals and

three assists. Teammate Daniel Estrada contributed nine points and

five rebounds and Raymond Beginyan added nine points and four

rebounds.

David Lee finished with seven points, six rebounds and three

assists for the Panthers, who got five points from Theo Minassian.

Bryan Aghakhani added four points, four rebounds and three assists

for Glendale, which got four points from Razmik Hossepians.

Nate Verano had three points for Glendale, which got two points

each from Elvin Youhanna and Rafael Gallegos and one from Neil

Talaro.

The Panthers also beat the High Desert Sparks and Temecula

Wolfpack.

SOFTBALL

Crescenta Valley Little League

Junior Division

Muir-Chase 2, Sierra Pacific 2: The contest turned out to be an

excellent pitching dual between Kylee Heurkins of Muir-Chase and

Heather Bacon of Sierra Pacific.

Kelsey Kasper, Michelle Duenay, Stephanie Ziemann, Alyssa

Sovereign and Heurkins played well defensively for Muir-Chase.

Muir-Chase 9, Burbank Diamonds 3: Devon Zerebko pitched well in a

complete-game effort for Muir-Chase. She also collected three doubles

and drove in three runs.

Kelsey Chambers, Kim Kellam and Kathryn Studebaker played well

defensively for Muir-Chase.

Western Studios 15, Jewel City Heat 2: Caitlin Deering, Megan

Edwards, Kellsey Butler, Brittny Dow and Kylie Mulligan combined to

pitch a four-hitter for Western Studios. Deering picked up the

victory.

Brittanie Johnson and Mary Knauf played well defensively for

Western Studios, which finished with 12 hits.

Emma Vine had three hits for Western Studios, which also got hits

from Mulligan, Deering, Knauf, Cynthia Ceja and Megan West.

Critters 16, Tujunga Dodgetts 7: Pitcher Hannah Cookson struck out

seven to pace the Critters.

Molly Burke, Hailey Cookson, Jessica Morena, Danni Khatchetourian,

Aspen Weber, Natalie Casey, Elena Leon and Amanda McNamee had hits

for the Critters. Sydney Potrykus, Chelsea Davis and Shayla Machuca

played well for the Critters.

Union Bank 7, Havana Cafe 7: Pitcher Max Rich had two shut-out

innings in relief to help Union Bank rally. Garrett Ellis played well
