Gloria Lee Gallery Hosts Resident's Premier Exhibit

May 06, 2005

Gloria Lee Mini-Galleries present "Presenting Alan Mayer," the premier art exhibit of local resident and photographer Alan Mayer.

While attending the University of Illinois, Mayer was the lead photographer for the Daily Illini. When he graduated, he accepted a business position in industry, but after only a year with that firm, feeling restless and needing to pursue his creative instincts, the brash young man went into business for himself. Mayer founded the Bratskellar/Josephinals restaurant chain, which eventually extended from Chicago to Los Angeles. However, Mayer never stopped fulfilling his creative calling: photography.

Now retired from the restaurant business, he is immersing himself in his love of photography. His photos are issued as limited editions, numbered prints, and include classic cars, character studies, signage, nostalgia and landscapes of both familiar and soldom-seen locations. Some works are presented "as-shot." Others are digital mixed-media creations.

"[Nothing] is as exciting as achieving that perfect photographic image," said Mayer. "That's the rush."
