Former La Cañadan Larry Edmiston, 68, passed away June 7, 2005. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Dec. 26, 1936. He moved to California with his family at the age of 4, settling in the San Fernando Valley.

He attended Roscoe School, Sun Valley Junior High, and Verdugo Hills High School.

He joined the Glendale Fire Department in 1963, then the Los Angeles County Fire Department in 1966, where he continued until his retirement in 1993. During most of his career Larry was stationed at Station 82 and Station 19, both in La Cañada Flintridge.

It was under his command that the Fire Department began its tradition of participating at La Cañada High School sports events and the Memorial Day/Fiesta Day parades. A highlight of several holiday seasons was when he escorted the LCHS Madrigal Singers caroling on the fire engine.

He is survived by Marie, his wife of 48 years; their son Steven, daughter-in-law Rosemary, and granddaughters Emily and Sophia of Trinidad, Calif.; their son David, daughter-in-law Pamela, and grandchildren Maggie, Heather, and Malcolm of Valencia.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 18, at 2 p.m., at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 N. Sierra Highway, Newhall. Following the service will be a reception at Dave and Pam Edmiston's home at 23228 Beaumont Street, Valencia. Directions to the Edmiston home will be provided at the memorial service. Additionally, a flag ceremony will be held at Fire Station 82, Foothill Boulevard and Georgian Road, on Friday, June 17, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to the Deacons' Fund, La Cañada Presbyterian Church, which serves the needy of the community.
