July 04, 2005|By Jennifer Berry

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce wants to light up the night July 4 with its 17th annual Fireworks Show at Crescenta Valley High School.

"We have a great show," said Jean Maluccio, the chamber's executive director. "The high school is the place to go."

The gates to the high school athletic field open at 4 p.m. Tickets are $9, with children who are 4 years old and younger admited free. Visitors are welcome to bring blankets or chairs to sit on the lawn, although some bleacher seating will be available.

Returning for his second consecutive year as event emcee is Rick Dinger, chamber president. "It has become a family tradition," said Dinger.

Preceding the fireworks show will be live music, starting with country music being followed by a college swing and classic rock bands.

"It's a whole different lineup," said Maulccio.

CVHS graduate David Siminski will play tunes as the event's disc jockey until the fireworks show begins shortly after dark.

Nine food booths will offer traditional carnival food as well as ethnic tastes, such as Thai and Latin cuisine. A carnival with games and amusement park rides will entertain visitors. Several area organizations and companies will have booths, including the Crescenta Valley Town Council Outreach Committee. CVTC outreach committee members will be displaying silent auction items up for bid. These will include gift certificates, baked goods and event tickets (see Auction page 21).

In addition to the CVTC auction, the Chamber of Commerce will be auctioning off two flags-a national flown at the chamber's request over the nation's capitol and a state flag flown over the state capitol.

Tickets are available in advance at the CV Chamber office, located at 3131 Foothill Blvd. Suite D. The office can be reached at 248-4957.

The proceeds from the event will go toward organizations and schools the CV chamber supports throughout the upcoming year.
