Summer School Days at End

August 05, 2005|By Mary O'Keefe

Glendale Unified School District's summer school is coming to an end today (Friday). Many students are coming away with a better understanding of English and math with plans to read and write more.

GUSD summer school has a variety of English language and math classes that help students stay on grade level. Elementary students spent their summer school days at Lincoln Elementary, middle school students are at Rosemont, and high school students are enjoying their last day at Crescenta Valley High School.

Students like eighth graders Janice Park and Taylor Renn have learned how to write better papers during their English enrichment program. Park states that school has been fun and she does not want the class to end. That feeling is also felt by second grader Blaine Meyhew, who is learning how to read and understand a story better. His class is also learning to write a better story thanks to guidance by teacher Marilee Prescott. Meyhew thinks this knowledge will help him in the future.

"I like to write scary stories," said Meyhew who may be a writer when he grows up.
