UCI names competition after Newport law firm
The UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business announced Wednesday
it would name its business-plan competition after Newport Beach law
firm Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth.
The school agreed to rename its competition after the firm
provided a donation to fund the competition's prizes and
administrative costs.
The size of the donation was not disclosed in the announcement.
The competition is an eight-month project that requires
participants -- who are not required to be UC Irvine business school
students -- to develop a plan for a new company. The team that wins
first prize in the annual competition is awarded $15,000.
In this year's competition, the winning team was called Unicom,
and team members worked on a plan involving enhanced cell phone
technology.
