Herron scores in big victory

o7The following are updates on local athletes competing at the

collegiate level:f7

Kevin Herron (St. Francis, 2003), redshirt sophomore, University

of San Diego football -- The Toreros dismantled host Menlo College on

Saturday, winning, 56-0, at San Jose City College, and Herron played

a part in the victory.

The former Golden Knight standout -- who is one of four running

backs who have gotten consistent carries this season for San Diego

(4-1) -- scored one of San Diego's eight touchdowns on the day.

Herron found paydirt from three yards out with 1:24 left in the first quarter. The touchdown was his second of the season.

In 24 carries, he has rushed for 84 yards. In Saturday's blowout

victory, Herron rushed for 36 yards in eight carries.

Ramses Barden (Flintridge Prep, 2004), redshirt freshman, Cal Poly

San Luis Obispo football -- Like Herron, the 2004 James H. Jenkins

Male Athlete of the Year scored his second touchdown of the season

Saturday.

Barden, a wide receiver, caught a seven-yard touchdown with 5:51

left in the third quarter, helping the Mustangs (4-1) to a 31-14

victory at Northern Colorado.

The touchdown was Barden's only catch of the game. On the season,

the 6-foot-6 target is third on the team with seven catches for 123

yards and two scores. He's averaging 17.6 yards per catch for Cal

Poly San Luis Obispo, ranked No. 10 in the NCAA I-AA polls.

John Sciarra (St. Francis, 2001), redshirt senior, Wagner College

football -- The UCLA transfer continued to set passing records for

the Seahawks.

In Saturday's 26-21 Northeast Conference-opening victory against

visiting Sacred Heart University, Sciarra set the school record for

career completions.

He completed 22 of 41 passes, which put him at 324 career

completions. Sciarra also threw for two scores and 322 yards in

Saturday's victory.

His big target was junior Chris Turner, who set a single-game

school record with 202 receiving yards.

On the season, Sciarra has completed 117 of 198 passes (59.1%) for

1,525 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Nick Seaver (Flintridge Prep, 2003), junior, Princeton University

men's water polo -- The 2002 All-Area Player of the Year continues to

shine for the Tigers, ranked No. 13 in the nation.

The hole/set is second on the team with 25 goals in 13 matches. He

scored in overtime on Sunday, but the Tigers lost, 12-11, against

Bucknell.

The loss dropped Princeton to 10-3 on the season and 4-1 in

Collegiate Water Polo Assn. Southern Division play.

Emily Clark (Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 2002), senior,

Catholic University of America women's soccer -- With Clark starting

on the defensive side of the ball, the Cardinals are 11-0 this season and 3-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Clark has been a starter since she arrived at Catholic University,

and in that time, the team has gone 48-19-2.

The Cardinals' most recent victory came Saturday. They defeated

Methodist, 4-2, thanks to a goal from Clark and a hat trick from Kate

Rosenberg.
