Five Acres to Host Orientation for Foster, Adoptive Parents

Five Acres Foster Family and Adoption Agency invites prospective foster and adoptive parents to a series of training classes beginning Saturday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2055 N. Lincoln Ave., Pasadena.

Through the training model called PRIDE -- Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education, potential foster and adoptive parents are taught the special skills necessary to protect and nurture children in need.

Led by Hilda Boulware, Five Acres foster care and adoption training coordinator, and Ivon Favella, the course consists of four consecutive Saturday classes (24 hours) and is required for foster and adoptive care certification.

Five Acres provides ongoing, extensive assistance and training to foster and adoptive parents thro ugh weekly visits with a case worker/therapist. Foster parents also receive financial support for the child's food, clothing, medical care and other needs.

Five Acres child and family services agency, founded in 1888, offers an array of services in addition to foster care and adoption including residential care and education, mental health services in homes and schools, deaf services and domestic violence prevention.
