There were no highway closures as a result, Villalobos said, adding that officers would probably be investigating well into the night.
Accused driver's hearing postponed
The preliminary hearing for a 23-year-old Glendale man accused of driving into a parked car in November, killing one teenager and critically injuring another, was postponed Monday until July 19 at Pasadena Superior Court.
Andranik Manukovich Atshemyan is charged with one count of murder and one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a fatal traffic collision on Nov. 19, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Atshemyan was allegedly traveling southbound on Columbus Avenue near Riverdale Drive at about 9:40 p.m. on Nov. 19 when the 1998 Land Rover SUV he was allegedly driving hit a raised traffic calming circle in the middle of the intersection, veered to the right, then hit a parked 1993 Nissan 240SX, Glendale Sgt. Peter Pressnal said.
The Nissan, which was occupied by a 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old Oscar Torres, of Burbank, began a chain reaction, smashing into four other parked cars in front of it.
Torres died on Thanksgiving day -- the same day Canadian officials apprehended Atshemyan while he was trying to get through customs to enter Canada, Glendale Police Det. Keith Soboleski said.
Police suspect he had plans of traveling to Armenia.
Atshemyan is being held without bail at the inmate reception center in Los Angeles.
Hearing setting for duo postponed
The preliminary hearing setting for an 18-year-old Glendale man and his 55-year-old father, both accused of murdering a 27-year-old North Hollywood man last January, was postponed Monday to Feb. 27 at Burbank Superior Court.
Gayk Gzoyan and his father Torgom Gzoyan are accused of gunning down Aram Aslanian Jan. 19, 2005, at the corner of Glendale Avenue and Maple Street.
Police believe there was an ongoing dispute between Aslanian and the Gzoyan family.
Both are being held on $1-million bond at the North County Correctional facility in Saugus.
