Grandstand Work Planned
Glendale is seeking a $250,000 grant to design a project to renovate the grandstands at Casey Stengel Field, named in honor of the late baseball legend and Glendale resident. According to the city, the project will modernize the stadium while maintaining its "classic splendor."
City to Note Centennial
The City of Glendale will kick off its celebration of 100 years of cityhood with a street party Feb. 18 on newly-resurfaced Brand Boulevard. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Wilson Avenue and Lexington Drive. Entertainment will feature marching and jazz bands from Glendale, Hoover and Crescenta Valley high schools, music and dance performances by students from other areas schools and entertainment from local dance groups. Also featured will be booths and displays from local groups and organizations, and children's games.
Planning Meetings Begin
Glendale will host a meeting on long-range planning Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Civic Auditorium. Later sessions are planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 16 at Sparr Heights Recreation Center and from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb 27 at Clark Magnet School.
Street Work to Begin
Construction work is due to begin this week on improvements for Camino San Rafael, south-westerly of Emerald Isle Drive. Contractor is Fleming Environmental, Incorporated. Completion date is April 17 barring unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions. Hours of work will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Dodgers Salute Legendary Coach
The Dodgers will salute the memory of Rod Dedeaux, the legendary University of Southern California baseball coach and a member of the 1935 Brooklyn Dodgers, during ceremonies prior to the Los Angeles Dodgers' regularly scheduled 7:10 p.m. game April 5 against the Atlanta Braves. Deadeaux died Jan. 5 in Glendale. "Rod Dedeaux Night" will feature members from Dedeaux's family, along with special guests from the collegiate, professional and international baseball communities. The Dodgers also will contribute $5,000 to the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, which promotes amateur sports in Los Angeles.
