Theater provides disabled access

January 28, 2006|By By Barry McComb

I am writing in response to Stanton Price's letter, "Alex needs to rethink access issue," which appeared in Friday's Mailbag section of the Glendale News-Press.

The Alex Theatre has been accessible to and enjoyed by patrons with special needs since it reopened its doors as a performing arts center on Dec. 31, 1993.

During the restoration process, seating for wheelchair patrons was added to the main level of the auditorium and since that time an automated wheelchair entrance has also been added to the lobby.

In addition, the Alex Theatre maintains assisted-listening devices for the hearing impaired and we are always happy to make arrangements to have a sign language interpreter available at performances.

Information on the accessibility of the theater is made available on our website at www.alextheatre.org.

I would like to extend an invitation to Price to visit the Alex Theatre, so that I can personally show him our efforts to make Glendale's prized, historic venue accessible to everyone.
