Pack 302 Visits Valley Sun Newspaper Office

February 03, 2006|By Geghard Arakelian

Tiger Cubs from Pack 302 Den 6 visited the Valley Sun office Friday afternoon to get a feel for how a newspaper works.

At about 3:30 p.m., 10 cubs and Webelos entered the Valley Sun office with volunteering parents. They were escorted by the paper's editor, Carol Cormaci.

After being shown the various offices of the building Cormaci led them to the editorial room, where she opened up the floor for questions.

The boys asked questions that varied from how many papers are produced to how many employees work in the each department.

"We put out 10,000 [issues]," Cormaci said.

After the scouts finished with their questions the tables were turned and the editorial staff took turns asking the scouts questions about the pack's routines and hobbies.

The Tiger Cubs were working on their Tiger badge. A requisite includes attaining black beads which are given to the scouts after a visit to the "Valley Sun" office.

The Tiger Cubs, students at La Crescenta, Monte Vista and Valley View elementary schools, are Lucas Martos-Repath, 6, Ethan Gates, 7, Troy Leef, 6, Luke Wade, 6, Brandon Thomas, 6, Andrew Shin, 6 and Ricky Fonda, 7. Older brothers and Webelos Shane Wade, 9 and Trevor Fonda, 10, came along, as did older sister Isabel Martos-Repath.20060203iu1ee2ncPhoto by Jennifer Berry(LA)HED -- Tiger Cubs from Pack 302 Den 6 visited the Valley Sun office Friday afternoon as part of their Go See It bead.
