ROAD'ERS CAR CLUB COLLECTS TOYS FOR CHILDREN

The Road'ers Car Club collected toys for its Cops for Kids Toy Drive at its holiday car show.

Santa Claus arrived in his red sleigh, a roadster, with a motorcycle escort from the Glendale Police Department. Escorts were Traffic Sgt. Anthony Futia and Officer Scott Byrne.

The Toy Drive netted more toys than last year, despite the fact that fewer cars were registered.

Dave Milton's 3/4 ton pickup truck was filled to capacity with nearly 200 toys.

The toys were delivered to the Glendale Police Department. Helping to unload the toys were Lt. Todd Stokes, Steve Eggett, Pat Larrigan, Louise Saiz and Guillermo Jimenez.

PRESIDENT NAMED FOR LIBRARY FRIENDS

At its January board meeting, the Friends of the La Cañada Flintridge Library elected Rosemary Hook as president for 2006.

Also serving are Doris Knight, secretary; Patrick Day, treasurer; Peggy Perry, membership chairwoman; and Frances Hill, publicity.

Day reported that net income for 2005 was in excess of $11,000, an increase of 144% over the projected total.

Perry attributed the surplus to an increase in lobby book sales and to strong community participation in the recent all-city membership drive.

President Hook plans to add a spring book sale to the annual fall event and to replace the aging storage container that houses books awaiting sale.

Volunteers to help with sorting and pricing books for the ongoing sales are urgently needed.

Anyone who can give two to three hours per week to this activity should call Rosemary Hook at (818) 541-9349.

LAS CARITAS CONTINUES TO GIVE TO PROJECT ACHIEVE

Las Caritas, an auxiliary of Assistance League of Glendale, continues to assist Project Achieve, a homeless shelter that provides support for about 40 individuals and/or families.

Angela Hilliard is director of the project. Caseworkers help participants re-establish themselves in the community.

Las Caritas members give time to the Guest Chef program. Five members, on a rotating basis, serve a hot, nutritious dinner every third Tuesday of the month.

One of Project Achieve's Christmas wishes was to have a Christmas tree, so Las Caritas provided 9-foot tree and all the trimmings.

Several members arranged a tree-trimming party with hot cocoa and cookies.

Members of Las Caritas are from Glendale, La Crescenta, La Cañada Flintridge and Burbank.
