Summer school starts June 26 and finishes Aug. 18. Students are tested and placed in a program that best suits their individual needs and capabilities.
Most morning sessions begin with math, reading and writing, followed by activities in the afternoon such as puppet-making, cooking, ice-cream making, acting, basketball and swimming.
The summer program also includes trips to the beach and other recreations areas, hiking, Hurricane Harbor, the L.A. Arboretum and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
It can also accommodate children from a wide range of backgrounds as the school offers a comprehensive English as Second Language program.

Hospital launches education series
Verdugo Hills Hospital will launch its women's education series called Take Charge of Your Life at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11.
Women from the local community are invited. Health care experts will present five seminars ? Good Medicine for What's Ailing You in the Bedroom, Connecting the Mind and Body, What's On Your Plate?, Five Minute Fitness and The Bottom Line on Beauty.
