More games washed away

April 03, 2006

GLENDALE ? Rain on Friday caused the postponement of two local games Saturday.

Glendale Community College's baseball game against College of the Canyons at Stengel Field and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy's softball game at home against Mayfield were the latest in a long line of local events postponed due to inclement weather this spring.

The Tologs' game was a nonleague contest, while the Vaqueros were scheduled for a Western State Conference Southern Division game.

Both of the aforementioned contests were delayed because of unplayable fields and it is not known when they will be rescheduled.

Crescenta Valley High's softball team was set to play in the Charter Oak Tournament, while Glendale and Hoover's track and field teams were set to compete in the Spartan Relays and the Covina Invitational, respectively.

As of press time it is not known whether those were canceled or not.

This past Tuesday saw rain play havoc with more than a dozen sporting events. The week prior saw even more.

And the forecast for the upcoming week is far from sunny.

More rain is predicted today and Tuesday.

It's likely to jeopardize the playing of a handful of area golf, baseball, softball and tennis events.

Still the schedule is a lighter one due to many schools being on spring break.

Glendale College is set to play those same Cougars of College of the Canyons at COC on Tuesday.

Flintridge Sacred Heart is hoping to get in its nonleague game against Ramona Convent at the Glendale Sports Complex today.

The Tologs, who had their Mission League game with Chaminade postponed on Tuesday as well, were 5-5 heading into Friday afternoon's league game with Alemany (a score was never reported).

The Vaqueros haven't played since a 4-1 loss to Pierce on March 25.

It was their ninth straight loss as they've struggled to an overall record of 7-21 and 2-10 in the Western State Conference Southern Division.
