If one feels that there is a crime problem within the city of Glendale, it should be addressed as a problem within the city and not within any targeted ethnic group.

Can't believe people consider link to Iraq

After reading Bob Tanabe's letter regarding the DVD "The Flight That Fought Back" about Flight 93 ("DVD illustrates fight against terror," March 28, Mailbag) I had to stop, take a breath, and ask rhetorically "is he living in the same world as I am?" Are there people out there who still swallow the Bush administration's linking of Iraq with Sept. 11, 2001? Are there still people who don't know that the big winner in Bush's folly is radical Islamic Iran? Are there still people who don't know that Bush's plan for Democracy in the Middle East has brought to power radical Islamic governments in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and the Palestinian Territories. Is there anyone out there who doesn't know that in his quest for victory, Bush has never defined how we will know when victory in Iraq has been attained?

I also saw a movie recently called "Good Night And Good Luck" about how government used fear and intimidation to kill dissent until a brave newscaster risked his career to speak out. I'm old enough to remember that moment. Some would probably call that newscaster a "whiny liberal." Well, that "whiny liberal" exposed a raving, right-wing, paranoid alcoholic maniac who brought government to a halt over imaginary communists, not one of which was ever exposed, and hundreds of lives were ruined.

Today's climate of fear generated by Bush and the Republicans, whether motivated by oil, profits for his cronies, or politics, is very similar to the witch hunts of the 1950s and I will have none of it. And as for Tanabe's tired foxhole analogy, I'll gladly let him share his foxhole with the likes of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al, not one of whom knows what a foxhole looks like.
