Future looks bright for community college

Community Commentary

April 10, 2006|By Anita QuiƱonez Gabrielian

The future looks bright for Glendale Community College for many reasons: a legacy of outstanding leadership from President and Supt. John Davitt; excellent administrators, faculty and staff; quality programs that meet community needs and cultivate future leaders; a strong and stable board of trustees; and a very supportive community.

These are great pillars to build on as we narrow the search for a new superintendent/president and prepare for new leadership.

On behalf of the Glendale Community College Board of Trustees, I would like to thank the members of the Board of Trustees Advisory Hiring Committee for their dedication and commitment to one of the most challenging undertakings the college has faced, selecting a new superintendent/president.

The daunting task of replacing Davitt, the longest-seated California Community College leader, upon his retirement requires input from all areas of the community and the college. Community members Mary Boger, Nick Hacopian, Carl Raggio, Richard Ramirez and Tony Tartaglia served on the committee along with faculty, staff and administrators to draft the job announcement, develop interview questions and conduct interviews as some of their responsibilities.

Four outstanding candidates have been selected as finalists for the position and they will appear at an open forum at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the college auditorium.

As we get closer to choosing the new leader, we are also getting closer to saying good-by and thank you to our existing one, who deserves many accolades.
