Long Beach State ? which received a second-place finish from Crescenta Valley High graduate Emily Forsythe in the high jump ? placed second with 178 points.

Kirsten Whitt (Crescenta Valley, 2002), junior outfielder, Loyola Marymount University softball ? Whitt and the Lions split a pair of games with Sacramento State on Sunday at home.

Loyola Marymount won the opener, 4-0, and lost the second game, 6-5. Whitt scored two runs in the doubleheader.

Kirsten Slouber, a former Glendale resident, went three for five with a run scored and a run batted in for Loyola Marymount (22-15) in the second game.

Whitt has started 34 games. Slouber, a freshman outfielder, has started all 37 and is batting .356.

Melanie McCauley (Crescenta Valley, 2002), senior third baseman, Long Beach State softball ? McCauley is batting .233 for the 49ers, who took two of three games against Cal Poly during the weekend.

McCauley went one for two in Sunday's 1-0 victory. Cal Poly's Lisa Modglin lined out to McCauley to end the game.

Long Beach State next plays Cal State Northridge ? which is led by Crescenta Valley High graduate Amanda Peek ? on Wednesday.
