La Crescenta resident William Wallace, an officer with the Maywood Police Department, was awarded the Medal of Valor for his efforts to evacuate residents during an apartment fire in that city.

20 Years Ago …

Love's Woodpit Barbecue in La Crescenta was the scene of the April 1986 mixer for the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce. The event's theme was "The Best of the West," with restaurant manager and host Jose Soto providing music and some of his Western barbecue favorites.

30 Years Ago …

The California Transportation Department began advertising for bids on the final 3.2-mile section of the north-south Glendale Freeway from Fern Lane to the Ventura Freeway. The segment, which had already been graded, was expected to cost nearly $15 million to complete.

40 Years Ago …

Crescenta Valley High School girls were given the opportunity to train to assist mentally and physically handicapped children in the area through the cooperation of the Glendale and Pasadena Girl Scout Councils and the Los Angeles County Services.

50 Years Ago …

A late snowfall blanketed the mountains towering over the Crescenta Valley in mid-April 1956.

In other CV news 50 years ago, representatives of Montrose and La Crescenta civic groups were issued a invitation by their counterparts in unincorporated La Cañada to attend a meeting to study the idea of installing a sewer system to serve the entire valley.
