City to celebrate Earth Day today

The city of Glendale will hold its annual Earth Day celebration starting at 10 a.m. today at Verdugo Park, 1621 Cañada Blvd.

The free family event will feature displays and demonstrations from the Police, Fire, Public Works, Glendale Water & Power, Neighborhood Services and Parks, Recreation and Community Services departments. Local businesses will also participate in this event, sharing Earth-friendly practices and information. For more information, call Jake Amar at (818) 548-3900.

Zarian to host Turkish genocide scholar

Former Glendale Mayor Larry Zarian will host Turkish scholar Ragip Zarakolu during a special, one-hour airing of "The Larry Zarian Forum" at 8 p.m. Sunday on Charter Cable Channel 26. Zarakolu is publisher of the newspaper company, Belge International in Istanbul. He has written about Turkish minorities and the Armenian Genocide for almost 30 years, and was jailed for three years in 1972 for discussing the Armenian Genocide in his works. He is under indictment by the Turkish government for two new books about the Armenian Genocide, and is facing up to six years in prison.
