Resident celebrates 100th birthday

Julio Dominguez Diaz, a resident of Mountview Retirement Residence in Montrose, recently celebrated his 100th birthday.

Diaz was born April 27, 1906 in Mexico. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in December 1942 and served until November 1945. He went ashore on Normandy Beach in France in June of 1944 and participated in many of the major battles of the European Campaign culminating in Berlin.

Before returning from the war, he was granted U.S. citizenship in Paris in April 1945.

After the war, he returned to Los Angeles and married his wife Isabel. They were married for 54 years and made their home in Eagle Rock. Isabel passed away in November 2000.

They have a son and a daughter, four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Jennifer Sinatra has been graduated from Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Fort Collins, receiving a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

She received a bachelor's degree from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, in 2000.

She graduated from Glendale High in 1996.

She will start a one-year internship on June 1 at Pioneer Equine Hospital in Oakdale, Calif.
