Students dreaming about summer? Before breaking out the tanning lotion, take note that summer is a chance to maintain reading skills by tackling books for enjoyment and leisure.

Toward this end, PTSAs are sponsoring book fairs to promote the joys of reading.

Glenoaks Elementary School has scheduled a Scholastic Book Fair beginning on Thursday and continuing through June 6.

John Marshall Elementary School has a book fair on June 8.

These are planned near the end of the school year to encourage families to stock up on books so students can maintain good reading habits during vacation, said Jaimi Zwerling-Jeffrey, Glenoaks' new PTSA president. These fairs have been popular in the past, assuring us that summer is a lot more fun when you have your favorite book in hand.
