GLENDALE ? The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy soccer team is off to another impressive start at the L.A. Watts Summer Games at the Home Depot Center.

Two years after winning the event and a year after falling in the semifinals, the Tologs started the 39th annual competition by posting a pair of convincing victories on Saturday.

Flintridge Sacred Heart defeated Whittier, 7-1, and shut out Morningside, 3-0, to win its bracket and advance to Saturday's championship round.

The Tologs ? who took second in the tough Mission League in the winter and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs for the fourth straight year ? routed Whittier thanks to their balanced scoring.

Carter Vetesse started the scoring onslaught in the first half, when Flintridge Sacred Heart also received goals from Cammie West and Pip Harragin.

Flintridge Sacred Heart's Mimi Roukoz and Sinead Flemming each scored twice in the second half. Melissa Copping had two second-half assists and Vetesse and Lisa Shaw had an assist apiece.

Scoring was harder to come by in the Tologs' second match.

After playing to a scoreless first half, Carly Crowder scored on Flemming's assist three minutes into the second half to give the Tologs a 1-0 lead against Morningside.

Three minutes later, Harragin assisted on Roukoz's goal.

Heather Riley closed out the scoring with eight minutes remaining.

Stefanie Chan and Maddie Gonzales, who also received support in the back from Caitlen Salata, Melissa Krause, Isabel Johnson, Helen Cate and Michelle Stansbury, led the Tolog suffocating defense.

Goalkeepers Brianna Hodge and Dominique Oro split time in the net for the Tologs, who graduated two-time All-Area Player of the Year Lauren Bustos.

Flintridge Sacred Heart will return four All-Area players next year, including Vetesse, Riley and Harragin.
