Society will not allow single-sex unions

On June 13, you published another vitriolic letter from Ray Shelton ("Still facing a battle for dignity"). Now he is not attacking church and religion, or people who have their young children believing in Santa Claus; this time it is having marriage redefined to fit his own views as a homosexual.

We have homosexual neighbors, and they are good people. We mind our business and they mind theirs; we treat them like any other neighbor and it works just fine. I do not think Shelton's very activist approach is in the best interests of those he perorates on behalf of. Marriage was instituted early in history for the procreation of children, and the continuation of the race.

Thus it requires a union between a man and a woman. So Shelton is demanding something that society is not willing to give, thus he is either ignored or rebuffed. It would seem more productive to work for a form of single-sex legal union, recorded in state records, covering property rights, inheritance, taxes, etc., which I think today would be accepted by the majority of the people.
